2013 Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG | 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL63 AMG Images Review :
The Beverly Hills playboy flaunts its eight-pack.
With a lineage descended from Le Mans–inspired gullwings, few cars have the chutzpah of the Mercedes-Benz SL. Steeped in 60 years of tradition and polished to near-perfection, it has been for most of its existence an embodiment of success, as well as the de facto baseline for high-end convertibles. On the other hand, a couple of decades ago, Stuttgart allowed the SL to grow soft in the middle; the SL of the 1980s and 1990s maintained its regal fitments but was oft dismissed by sports-car cognoscenti as a Beverly Hills shopping cart, a reward for marrying into a successful dental practice.
Redemption began with the fifth-generation SL in 2003, Mercedes dialing in progressively more performance and handling acuity with each passing year. Of these, the fire-and-brimstone SL63 AMG was definitely our favorite, and although that model has lost its splendid naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V-8 in the car’s extensive 2013 redesign, it’s no less an executor of all our guiltiest pleasures.
